What is Quality?
Conformance to print specifications?       Exceeding customer expectations?
And how is quality achieved?
Best quality in most manufacturing environments is typically the result of dedicated processes that have been refined over time to provide stability and capability. But the quality tools that are used in these places are largely unrealistic in a rotomold job shop like AKRO Plastics. Our machinery needs to run many different products at the same time, and that product mix changes at irregular intervals, and each one of these products has an ideal process that is in conflict with the others'. In other words, the processes we assign are seldom stable, yet they must be capable.
Quality at AKRO Plastics is all about managing information, acquired skills, and knowledges. Our body of knowledge (BoK) is not exclusive to a couple individuals. Rather, it is an aggressive system of documents, broad in scope, that are organized for access in ways that make them effective to the many quality objectives. This is our process control, it provides timely feedback loops, it treats all variation as actionable, and it is all intuitive.
